Among the myriad of secret options that Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO have is a dedicated menu that stores useful hardware diagnostic tools. It is the “CIT menu” (also FQC test), where You can get the audio test included with your mobile phone. And many service technicians use it to check for problems with microphones and speakers.
Yes, believe it or not, you often don’t need external tools to figure out that something isn’t working right. Besides, it has many other tools to check other qualities of your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO. There are tests for radio, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, sensors and more.
But how do you get to this menu to check if your phone’s microphone and speakers are working properly? It’s easy to follow these steps (applies to Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO whether you use MIUI or HyperOS):
From Settings menu: Settings > About phone > Details & Specifications > Press 5 times on the kernel version In MMI dial code: Dial *#*#6484#*#* and CIT menu will open.
Once you are in the CIT menu, what audio tests will you find here? Depending on your MIUI or Hyper OS version and also your mobile’s audio hardware, these are:
Speaker Adjustment: Plays an audio tone to adjust the speaker. It also works as a first test to see if the speaker works.Recevier/Botton_speaker/Top_speaker/Spearker Test: Test the sound of all the speakers on your mobile. To pass the tests, you need to press two numbers that the robot voice will tell you Play music on receiver / Play music on speakers: Test the sound by playing music with all speakers. If you confirm that you don’t hear any strange noise, you will pass Speak Mic Test/Main Mic/Top Mic/Sub Mic Test: Test the audio reception of all Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO microphones. To listen to the voice of the robot, you have to connect headphones, which you have to say some words out loud. If the microphones can correctly register the necessary words, the tests will pass.
What happens when you fail any of the tests? Whatever the speaker attempts, it means that someone might be hurt or defiled. At this point you have to replace it or clean it (externally or using the device to remove the water trace that Xiaomi has).
If the error is in the microphone test, you may have to go to technical service to change it, as there are rarely specific failures that can be fixed without a little knowledge of hardware and electronics.
