For years, PCs were the only devices that could emulate or virtualize almost any other device, including video game consoles, cell phones, tablets, and more. Today the latter have made a lot of progress and also are able to run certain programs of others. You can also emulate some PC games, although they are almost always very old.
When we talk about latest PC games, cloud gaming is one of the very few alternatives to enjoy them on mobile devices, but not anymore. The reason? Xiaomi just brought PC gaming to its tablets with WinPlaya feature that could totally revolutionize the market.
Xiaomi’s WinPlay lets you run PC games almost natively on your tablets
Without making big presentations, Xiaomi has just dropped a bomb on its Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. The Chinese company has enabled WinPlay, a virtualization engine for your tablets with HyperOS 2 which lets you run Windows games almost natively.
It is not a Windows emulator with which a lot of resources are wasted and compatibility may be reduced. On the contrary, that’s all a virtual environment whose performance and stability are excellent.
According to Xiaomi itself, to achieve this goal it relies on the powerful HyperOS 2 core, creating a three-tier virtualized environment that allows you to run essential Windows APIsexecute commands and render images almost as if you were using a real PC.
The optimization is such that Xiaomi guarantees it only 2.9% of GPU performance is lost. This would be impossible with a Windows emulator and tells us about the excellent work done by the company. In fact, Xiaomi gets angry by saying this It can reach the performance of a mid-range PC.
WinPlay is capable of Run titles like 2014’s Tomb Raider and 2013’s NFS: Most Wanted with exceptional fluidity. Yes, they are games that are more than 10 years old, but with very good graphics and that run on a device completely different from a PC.
Plus, it turns out that WinPlay has a few other things to offer:
- It is compatible with many peripheralsincluding keyboards, mice, and even Xbox controllers.
- It is compatible with the Steam libraryso you will have access to a vast catalog of titles. Yes, your tablet will almost become a Steam Deck.
- Average power consumption is only 8.3W while the application is running, so we are talking about a fairly efficient system.
- It also has an intelligent resource allocation systemallowing you to prioritize power delivery to WinPlay for better performance.
What do you need to use WinPlay on your Xiaomi tablet and when will it be available?
As we have seen above, and as was predictable, WinPlay is an exclusive feature for Xiaomi devices. This is because it depends entirely on HyperCore, the heart of HyperOS 2. So don’t expect it on devices from other brands, unless they copy the idea.
Now, at the time of this writing, WinPlay was only available as a beta for Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. Congratulations if you have this tablet! Well, now you can try this feature. AS? Simply update your tablet to the latest system version.
And other users with Xiaomi tablets? Don’t think you’ll be left out, well the company plans to expand compatibility once WinPlay development has reached a more stable level.
Of course there is no list of tablets that will be compatible, but we can imagine that there will be two main requirements: have at least HyperOS 2 and have high-performance hardware. That is to say: it’s almost a given that it will come to the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro, although it could also come to the standard Xiaomi Pad 7.
