Instagram has launched a redesign of its interface that many users hate. The grid of posts on your profile it went from being perfectly square to being rectangular. And this is a big problem for some, not only because they aesthetically prefer the previous style, but also because they designed their profile with the thumbnails in mind to be square.
Already longing for the days when your Instagram profile sported a perfectly tidy grid? Don’t worry, There’s a way to get that classic, strategic layout back into your profile. Soon we will explain how to return to the square grid on your Instagram profile.
What happened to the posting grid on Instagram profiles?
What happened after the latest Instagram update is that post thumbnails on your profile They stopped being square and became rectangular.. Specifically, its aspect ratio went from 1:1 to 4:5. Why did they make this change? Adam MosseriCEO of Instagram, made the following argument:
“We started with the tall grid because the majority of photos and videos uploaded to Instagram right now are vertical, and rectangles do a better job of displaying those photos and videos. That said, I know some of you spend a lot of time tweaking grids and that screwed things up, so we’re going to improve the ability to customize those thumbnails to make it easier to get back to a place you’re happy with.”
Not convinced why Instagram changed the aspect ratio on the profile grid? Me neither and that’s why I took on the task of finding a way to do it go back to the previous square grid, making sure the change is universal and everyone can see it. The solution I found is shown below.

At the moment, You need to do this with each of your posts. that you want them to appear square in the thumbnail, as Instagram doesn’t offer an option to change them all at once. It’s annoying, we know, but for now it’s the only thing that can be done.
