Laughter, cheers, and canned applause, as well as other familiar sound effects from sitcoms, talk shows, and mother-in-law, enter a new place. Reaching WhatsApp, Instagram Reals and even Tiki Talk was not enough for them, now we find them in Android calls.
An update introduced audio emoticons to Android, a feature that no one expected and would change phone calls forever. Want to know what these sounds are all about and how they work? Keep reading to find out.
If you have Android, you can now answer traditional calls with pre-recorded sounds
By mid-2024, traditional phone calls will be displaced by other methods of communication. We are talking about messages, voice notes, videos, stickers and calls on platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram and others, all of which are more versatile than a regular call.
Average users around the world don’t use common calls because they are outdated. In fact, we only use them for emergencies, work or doctor’s appointments. We pretty much threw them into oblivion, but it looks like Google wants to bring them back with a very interesting feature: answering traditional calls with voice emojis.
Now you can talk to other people using your mobile phone and send voice responses like Facebook soundmojis anytime. When you press one of the new audio emojis in the Google Phone app, your interlocutor will be sent a two-second sound. In addition to that, For each emoji, the audio plays an animation on the screen. The responses are as follows.
Applause.Grief or regret (drum roll).
If you’re old enough, these responses will remind you of Microsoft’s long-lost MSN Messenger and its incessant sounds and noises. However, they won’t send you one voice emoticon after another, so we invite you to stay calm. The application forces you to wait a little time between each oneSo they can’t harass you with them.
It’s a very useful little feature and one to watch out for if you’re in the middle of an important call. In addition, it is a great tool for the increasing number of phone pranksters in Spain. However, it’s still a surprise that you can use for fun at some point.
How and when to enable voice emoticons on Android
If this new functionality catches your attention, you should know that it will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. At the moment it is only accessible through the Google Phone beta application, but it is a matter of time to reach the stable version.
Voice emoticons are disabled by default, so you’ll have to enable them by following these simple steps.
Open the Google Phone app.Go to the settings of the application “Voice emoticon” section and enable sound for calls.
Once you do this, you will see a new panel on your device screen every time you make or receive a call. It’s an audio emoji panel with the six responses we mentioned above. You just need to click on it to send one. And if you’re the one receiving it, you’ll notice the corresponding animation on the screen with each sound.
What do you think about that news? Do you use it regularly?
