Google’s biggest developer conference finally got its time to shine. Google I/O 2024 brought with it some very exciting news, all fueled by the sensation of the moment: artificial intelligence. It is not surprising that Google has decided to increase the use of this technology in its products, as the main actor of the conference, Google Gemini, was undoubtedly the only one.
Big changes are coming to various Google services, but don’t worry, they’re all good. The idea is to provide more efficiency and usefulness to the tools you use, to get what you need as much as possible. There are 5 big changes announced at Google I/O 2024, and we’ll reveal them below.
Goodbye Google Assistant, hello Gemini
Something was in sight, and now it’s official: Google Assistant has said goodbye, giving way to Gemini. So, when you interact with Google’s virtual assistant by voice, it will be the AI it refers to that will be responsible for answering your questions.
If you have a smarter program on your side that can handle queries or requirements with more accuracy, the better your results should be. It also notes that you can provide some personal information that Google stores as “Gems”.
It’s not yet known when and how Gemini will transition to Google Home products, but it shouldn’t be a problem.
Circle to Search is now available on all Androids.
The “Circle Search” function was a much-lauded innovation, but unfortunately, it was limited to the Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24. However, seeing the impact, it was going to take time before Google decided to share the same with the rest of the devices.
How does it work? You simply have to click on an element on your screen, and Google will show you a small tab with information of interest. This is very useful when you are studying and looking for definitions in a text or when looking for solutions to math problems or chemical formulas. All you have to do is put your finger on your target and let Google go with the help of Gemini.
Fraud and phone spam detection
There is nothing more annoying than receiving hundreds of calls a day, all of which can be scammed by someone behind the line with tempting services. Well, Google can alert you if you encounter a scam, by listening to the call and looking for the most common patterns in these types of scams. Hang up and block the number immediately, you may receive a warning that you are being scammed.
Summaries generated by AI
Gemini is the protagonist of this change, allowing you to read a summary of what you want or receive from Google services. That is, if you receive an email, it is your responsibility to provide a summary of the content before you start reviewing it paragraph by paragraph. The same thing happens with the results in the Google search engine.
Summaries are very useful ways to get information as short and concise as possible. It doesn’t take away from the fact of reading to digest all the content in depth, but it definitely helps when the answers you want are short.
Google searches are now ordered by Gemini
Google’s search engine has received a makeover by incorporating Gemini directly into its tools. Along with this, the change that is happening in the United States (and will soon happen in the rest of the world as well) is to make your browsing more personalized and easier to integrate.
You can find different types of information among Google results, not just those that link to related websites. This includes summaries made by Gemini and anything else related to your needs, such as maps, email addresses, calendars, etc. Google wants to refine the way to provide satisfactory answers, so the experience is much better.
And what do you think about these new changes at Google?
