Seeing AI comes to Android: Microsoft’s app for the blind

To celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Microsoft has decided to launch a new version of Seeing AI. This is not just its own app aimed at people who are blind or have low vision, which until now was only available for Apple devices. Well, things are moving in a different direction, because with the update, AI View is now available on the Play Store for Android.

It should be noted that this application is made for blind people. The founder of the project, Saqib Shaikh, suffers from the same situation, and with the help of his team, he has been improving Seeing AI over time to make it the first choice for people with zero or limited vision.

AI lands on Android with embedded artificial intelligence.

Simply put, AI acts as a guide for blind people when using a smartphone, similar to Be My Eyes or similar apps. The application was developed to provide audio descriptions of many items that can generally be viewed from digital devices. The best thing is that thanks to the integrated AI, you can go deeper into the descriptions to provide much more details than in normal use.

Simply point the camera or take a photo of what you want to know and the app will give you a description. You can switch between the different options to listen to specific information.

Snippets of Text: Focusing only on the text you want to read, the app starts speaking aloud. Documents: Not only will AI View scan the content of the documents for you, but you also have the option to chat with the AI to find shortcuts to specific information you want to know. Products: The app guides you by voice to scan the product’s barcode. By knowing him, he can tell you the name of the product and information about it. Photos: You can hear the description of the scene in the photo, and you can find even more specific information in the “Additional Information” section. In addition, it is possible to explore the entire photo by moving your fingers and then listen to the location of the objects identified by AI. Similarly, seeing AI helps you share photos. It recognizes people, money, colors, lights, and handwriting: AI can identify each of these elements for you so you know they’re there or what they’re saying.

Seeing AI is currently available in 18 languages. The Microsoft team It plans to extend it to 34 by 2024. You can download it from Play Store for free.
