Samsung suggested that perhaps a future version could report the pen but, we are real, it is not happening. Absolutely, but the compromise was worth it. You may not agree, and it is valid, but I still think Samsung has made the right call for the masses on this.
Software
A UI 8 shines, but it could still learn something or two
Samsung One UI skin on top of Android has always heard heavy but, at the risk of looking like a broken record, it is quite good on larger screens. An UI 8 benefits in particular of the drastic redesign of Samsung launched with an UI 7, which offers the entire experience a new excellent aspect.
Having said that, it hasn’t changed much since the last time. A user interface has many multitasking options, many folding improvements (such as the control of the Flex mode) and a ton of Galaxy AI functionality. But there is really nothing that stands out like new or “trying” on the galaxy z fold 7. Is it a negative thing? I do not believe! Samsung’s software is mature right now and in an era of refinement. This only means, as a user, everything seems stable and familiar, which is a victory in my book.
The only thing I think I want in this experience at this point is that Samsung took some notes on what its competitors have done with multitasking. In particular, Oppo/OnePlus reinvented multitasking with “open canvas”. As for general performance, there are no surprises here. After years of second class compared to Samsung’s less expensive slabs, Samsung has divided the difference by offering its best main camera on its most expensive smartphone. Samsung still fights with the movement, makes some processing choices that I don’t like and has its right dose of inconsistencies, but they are overall happy quite happy here.
