In our Palworld article for Android, we state that the game is only available on PC (Steam) and Xbox consoles. However, it can also be played on mobile phones through the cloud with GamePass Ultimate. Now, officially, this “Pokémon with guns” cannot be downloaded or installed on mobile devices. However, this may change in the future.
Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, has posted on a job search website that they are looking for someone to work on Palworld’s mobile version. Palworld mobile verified? No, but it’s a hope for mobile gamers.
Palword creators looking for mobile game developers, port on the way?
After Pocketpair (the creators of the game) posted a job opening looking for a mobile game engineer, the hope of seeing a Palwords port for mobile increased. Does that mean they are making a mobile version of their viral game? Not necessarily. Pocketpair is a company that has many fronts and probably had plans to make mobile games before the successful launch of Palworld.
On their official profile on Steam, we see that Pocketpair has only released four games to the market, and three of them are still in “Early Access” (not finished). In addition, a new release scheduled for the first quarter of 2024 called “The Absolute Tomb: The Witch and the Cursed” is a kind of Hollow Knight combined with Roguelite mechanics.
It’s clear that the developers at Palworld are working on more games beyond their viral titles. Now, from the Pocketpair games we know, AI: Art Impostor is mobile-only and doesn’t seem to require a large team. And…why would you want to hire mobile game developers if their access games are only available on PC and consoles?
They may simply want to fill the shoes of a developer who has left the company, or they may want to use the capital injection they received thanks to Palword to expand their business into mobile platforms. Mobile games are known to be extremely profitable and more profitable than mobile games in terms of actual monetization.
As of today, I don’t see how Palword can have the same success on mobile, it’s a paid game without microtransactions and costs 26.09 euros. They are typically free-to-play games that run on mobile phones and are monetized through ads (like Among Us) or micropayments (like Genshin Impact and Gachapon, just one example).
If Pocketpair plans to bring Palword to mobile phones, it will certainly not be a simple port, but a complete adaptation of the game to the mobile ecosystem. Anyway, for now, this is pure speculation, because the company has added new content and some interesting improvements to the game, such as raid bosses, cross-play and PvP.
