Nubia takes the performance and power system of its flagship mobile phone to the next level
As you would expect, one of the big new additions to the Nubia Z80 Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This processor is the best of Qualcomm, with an average improvement of 25% compared to the previous generation. Almost all the big brands are betting on it, so Nubia will hardly look away.
The performance section is completed with between 12GB and 16GB LPDDR5X RAMas well as 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The latter is striking, because it is the first top of the range of this generation to abandon the 256 GB version. And yes, obviously it is needed Android 16, with tons of features based on artificial intelligencethanks to the level of customization of Nebula AIOS 2.
However, something more interesting concerns the energy system, where notable improvements are being recorded. The first is the battery, which ranges from 6150 mAh to 7200 mAh, an increase of 17%; the second is fast charging via cable, ranging from 80W to 90W; and the third is the wireless charging, which finally arrives on this series and it does it with a power of 80 W (excellent).
And, curiously, it turns out that the Nubia Z80 Ultra uses the same one 3D Ice Steel VC cooling system from his brothers at RedMagic. The only different thing is that there is no fan, but it uses the same technologies and their advantages.
The Nubia Z80 Ultra hides several improvements in its cameras and is still one of the best looking flagships
After a quick look at its spec sheet, you will most likely not notice any changes in this device’s cameras, but they are there. What are they? These:
- Main bedroom: stays at 50 MP, but goes to Omnivisor 990 1/1.3” sensor which is bigger. Obviously it loses the variable aperture of the Nubia Z70 Ultra and remains at f/1.7 (which is not bad at all).
- Telephoto: uses the same 64 MP sensor as last year, but the aperture goes from f/2.5 to f/2.4 and the optical zoom increases to 3x.
- Ultra wide angle: it also repeats the 50 MP sensor of 2024, but now with f/1.8 (previously f/2.0). The visual change continues at 122º.
- Front camera (under the screen): another sensor that remains, this time 16 MP. However, The aperture improves noticeably when you go from f/2.5 to f/2.0.
Moving on to aesthetics, Nubia continues to make slight changes to the design used compared to the Z60 Ultra. For some this could mean stagnation; but it fits well and what works there is no reason to change. Furthermore, the company continues to bet on the presentation of Starry Night version, inspired by Van Gogh’s work of the same name and it’s spectacular. In fact, it’s one of the best designs you can find.
And what can we say about the screen? Why do we leave it so low? The reason is simple: there is no news regarding the Nubia Z70 Ultra, even if a renewal is not urgently needed. The Nubia Z80 Ultra uses a 6.85” OLED panel produced by BOE and whose resolution is also 1.5K It has a refresh rate of 144 Hzpeak brightness of 2000 nits and PWM of 2592 Hz. And yes, it’s the same as the new RedMagic.
