MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 8400, an upper-midrange chip that delivers the most powerful generative AI performance in its class. How do you do it? Being the first in its range to incorporate the “All Big Core” design, which means that all its cores perform (it has no low-power cores intended for efficiency, as usual). Additionally, it offers a powerful NPU and MediaTek’s new Dimensity Agentic AI engine.
As a direct successor to the Dimensity 8300 and at the same time based on the new Dimensity 9400, this new Dimensity 8400 promises superlative performance in the premium mid-rangewhich right now is dominated by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 in terms of performance. Will MediaTek be able to take the crown in this range from Qualcomm? Let’s get to know its specifications to find out.
All the specifications of the MediaTek Dimensity 8400
The Dimensity 8400 processor uses an eight-core CPU, all ARM Cortex-A725. It operates at a frequency of up to 3.25 GHz, providing a 41% more multi-core performance compared to its predecessor. Additionally, this chip is designed to monitor CPU performance and power curve, allowing for improvement 44% reduction in peak power consumption compared to the Dimensity 8300.

Likewise, MediaTek’s Dimensity 8400 offers an excellent gaming experience with its GPUMali-G720Which has 24% higher peak performance and 42% higher power efficiency than the Dimensity 8300. This GPU works together with MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0 to improve the fluidity and optimize the performance of games and applications in real time.
Furthermore, it has MediaTek’s NPU 880, which enables the use of AI applications such as AI translation or recording. It also integrates MediaTek’s Dimensity Agentic AI Engine, which allows you to create AI applications that anticipate user needs.
For image capture, this processor features the MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP which supports HDR recording across the entire zoom range. And as far as connectivity is concerned, the strong point is precisely this 5G-A modem that allows speeds of up to 5.17 Gbps Supported by Network Observation System (NOS) technology for improved power efficiency and network connectivity. Among other things, it supports up to two displays and WQHD+ displays up to 144 Hz.
When will the first phones with MediaTek Dimensity 8400 be launched?
As reported by MediaTek, the Dimensity 8400 will be present in many of the 5G mobile phones launched on the market from the end of 2024. However, Xiaomi said this is the case RedmiTurbo4 It will be the first to use this processor (albeit in its “Ultra” variant of which nothing is known so far) and will arrive at the beginning of 2025.
Realme also confirmed that it will launch a mobile phone based on this processor, but did not provide details. It is said that it will be the Realme Neo7 SE.
