INMOTION E20 Review: The easiest electric unicycle to ride

With the arrival of new gadgets like the INMOTION E20 electric unicycle, urban mobility is undergoing a quiet, but powerful revolution. This device is not only a means of transportation, but also an expression of freedom and adaptability in the urban environment.

I’m not one of those types of vehicles, in fact, they never caught my attention and I didn’t know, especially the misguided notion of driving problems and lack of safety. However, INMOTION E20 is a gadget that has surprised me for many years, perhaps since the launch of the first Xiaomi scooter in 2017. I will tell you the reason below.

INMOTION E20 review in Spanish: a personal mobility revolution.

Learning To Ride The Inmotion E20 Electric Unicycle
It is the easiest electric unicycle to learn to ride on the market.

INMOTION is an integrated company that works for electric mobility and specializes in electric scooters and unicycles. Last year we reviewed the very powerful INMOTION Climber scooter which I thought was amazing for getting around rough roads. Now the brand brings us a completely different vehicle, but just as revolutionary.

INMOTION is an electric unicycle or unicycle, designed for beginners with 0 experience (like me) who have never tried it before. I’ll tell you right away what this vehicle looks like and how I learned to drive it, but not before leaving the technical data sheet.

What does the INMOTION E20 electric unicycle look like?

INMOTION E20 has an intuitive and minimalist design that challenges traditional perceptions of personal mobility. With two wheels mounted on one wheel, it is designed to provide a stable and safe ride for those with no previous unicycle experience.

This behavior is critical because it removes the barriers of fear and doubt. So much so, you can stand completely on it without falling or losing your balance. Each tire measures 14 inches and is designed for smooth roads with little to no bumps.

It has an engine located in the center of the body and two control pedals located on the sides, which keeps the vehicle’s center of gravity in a position that is always easy to balance. Once you master it, it gives you a unique sense of freedom as it is hands-free.

It weighs barely 13.5 kg (much less than any other bike or scooter) and takes up very little space. You can put it behind any door and you won’t even notice. You can also carry it in the trunk of the car and use it to go to another area, for example, on foot. Likewise, it is convenient to run for quick tasks because it is not difficult at all.

And if you have to climb stairs on the way, the low weight makes it very easy to lift and move from one place to another without any problems. Perfectly suited to city life!

It should be noted that the build quality is very good. It feels solid and sturdy, and it’s IPX5 protected so you can ride through puddles or ride in the rain without fear of damage. Of course, the manufacturer warns that it is not recommended for long-term use in the rain, because it can only withstand external drops.

On the other hand, it should be noted that it has front and rear lights. In fact, the tail light automatically turns on when you slow down to warn those behind. Additionally, you can customize and adjust the ambient lighting as you wish from the app (we’ll talk about that later).

How is the INMOTION E20 unicycle controlled? is it hard

INMOTION E20 allows you to intuitively drive hands-free using body movements to control acceleration, braking and turning. Simply lean forward to accelerate, or lean back to slow down and brake. To turn left or right, you must lean your upper body to that side by moving your weight to the corresponding leg.

The INMOTION E20’s learning curve is relatively quick. With short, spaced sessions, you can integrate basic management in just a few days. Especially, being a complete beginner and having never tried one, it took me 5 days to master this unicycle. My lesson was this:

Day 1. My first session was about 30 minutes in a 20 meter corridor. It can go back and forth at a slow pace in 10 minutes. It supports me going up and down. The next 20 minutes I managed to overcome the limited speed of early learning mode, with only 2 activities in the day. This was a 20 minute session, how to climb and descend without support. At the end of the session I was able to go out in a calm state and without support on the 3rd day. This time I went to the parking lot, I was moving carefully because it was the first time I always go to the corridor. There was a wall in front of me. Everything went smoothly, I was able to turn around without any problems and started turning left and right. The session lasts 30 minutes. Day 4. In this other half hour session I will focus on 180 degree turns, probably the most complicated part so far. You have to make several attempts until the brain “clicks” and matches the way to distribute the weight to start turning more clearly. Sometimes you feel that the unicycle is going to tip over, but the truth is that it keeps its balance well and it’s just a matter of getting your mind used to it. 5 days. Finally, I did a 30 minute session. It starts moving freely in the parking lot and taking turns and reversing.

You’re probably thinking that it took me days to master the INMOTION E20, but you have to learn to walk before you can run. It is important to keep the sessions short and leave at least one day off for the brain to assimilate the learning. So you go into the next day with more confidence.

By not relying on a central control unit, this type of drive offers greater flexibility and freedom of movement. It looks like a natural extension of the body! In addition, they can be driven both sitting and standing, providing comfort and safety in both positions. By the way, the set adapter is sold separately.

How powerful is the INMOTION E20 unicycle?

The top speed achieved by the INMOTION E20 is 20 km/h. Due to its 900 W engine, this is not a very fast vehicle as it is designed for urban areas and short trips. In addition, it does not have off-road characteristics, so you can only take it on smooth and clear roads.

It’s faster than walking on the INMOTION E20, but slower than an electric bike or scooter. In addition, they cannot climb steep slopes (the maximum slope exceeds 15°). These restrictions are preventative measures to keep the vehicle safe to use.

Inmotion E20 Egg Design
It can go at three different speeds (maximum is 20 km/h).

Can you go slow? Yes, it has three speeds: 7 km/h, 15 km/h and 20 km/h. Explain that these are the speed limits for each mode, you control the speed according to the balance on the pedals. By default, the speed is controlled according to the battery percentage. If there is 75% or more battery, it will go faster. If it decreases from 75% to 20%, the speed will gradually decrease to 12 km/h. From 20% to 10%, the speed is about 8 km. And from 10% to 1%, the speed is about 5 km. However, you can manually change the speed from the app.

Incidentally, it has an alarm system that beeps if the speed exceeds the limit set by the current mode.

What is your mobile app for?

Inmotion E20 Mobile Application
This is INMOTION E20 mobile app.

INMOTION E20 has a very easy to use smartphone app. Once you connect the unicycle to your phone via Bluetooth, you can use the app to adjust speed, acceleration/brake, balance, calibration and more. Its interface is simple and also allows you to view information about various parameters of the vehicle, including the battery level.

With the app, you can customize your lights, lock/unlock the unicycle and update firmware. Additionally, the integrated speaker can be activated to play music or podcasts from your phone.

On The Move

How long does the INMOTION E20 battery last?

The maximum range that the INMOTION E20 can give you is 30 kilometers. This is consistent with what we said earlier about unicycles: they are made for short trips. And how long does it take to install? About 3.5 hours.

It is also worth adding that it has a low battery alarm that beeps and flashes when the battery level is below 20%. Ah! And it has a battery management system with protection functions to ensure product quality.

Final verdict: INMOTION E20 is the best electric unicycle for beginners.

Inmotion E20 Electric Unicycle
It is an electric unicycle that is easy to ride (even for beginners) and very comfortable.

I have heard many times that once you learn to ride a unicycle, there is no going back. But he never paid attention to it. Now I can say that it is completely true. I still have to learn, but I can say that the feeling is special. It really feels like an extension of your body, controlling it is like magic!

It’s a unique feeling of freedom as it goes hands-free and takes up very little. It has become my favorite electric medium for comfort, size and fun to drive.

It is true that there are very powerful models on the market, but it all depends on the profile of the user. In this case, INMOTION E20 seems perfect to me for those who haven’t tried it yet or find it difficult.
