Better protection, thinner, more battery, bigger and brighter screens
On an aesthetic level, the Huawei Mate X7 does not change much compared to the Mate X6there’s no need, because the 2024 one was beautiful. But don’t think that this means that everything stays the same, because you would be very wrong.
The Mate X7 is slightly thinner than the This thanks to the new triple hinge created by Huawei for this device, which not only allows you better bending but also helps you get protection. How much? So much so that you can go from the classic IPX8 certification (liquids only) to IP58 / IP59 (dust and liquid).
Now the Mate X7 grows a little in width and height, but not for the worse. This increase allows it increase battery capacity up to 5525 mAh and without sacrificing the pricing system (which is 66W wired and 50W wireless). It also allows the use of slightly larger screens.
The internal OLED panel is now 8″ and has a peak brightness of 2500 nits, although it maintains 2K resolution. For its part, the external OLED panel increases to 6.49″ and a maximum brightness of 3000 nits, but remains the same with Full HD+ resolution. Both screens have LTPO with frequency up to 120 Hz and PWM at 1440 Hz.
The Mate X7 has up to 20GB of RAM and its main camera changes depending on the variant you choose
When it comes to storage, you will find configurations of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. While RAM ranges from 12GB to a party of no less than 20GB. Yes, it’s true that there are phones with up to 24 GB of RAM, but they are very few and Huawei wanted to give it its all.
However, there is a very curious element linked to the amount of RAM you choose: the main camera changes sensor. There is no direct relationship between one thing and another, furthermore, both sensors will be 50 MP with variable aperture f/1.4 – 4.0 (XMAGE)PDFAF and OIS. Without embargo, The 12 GB versions will have a 1/1.28” sensor. and the 16/20 GB ones will have a 1/1.56” (smaller) one.
This does not happen with the rest of the cameras, since they are the same in all variants and a luxury on a technical level. The telephoto lens is 50 MP, with 3.5x optical zooma very low aperture for that zoom level (just f/2.2), PDAF and OIS. For its part, the ultra wide angle is the same as last year, 40 MP with f/2.2 and a 120º field of view. The same thing happens with the front cameras, which remain 8 MP, with f/2.2 the external one and f/2.4 the internal one.
Another new feature in this mobile is the Kirin 9030 Pro, the most powerful chip created by Huawei. On average, It is 42% better than the Kirin 9020 and features significant improvements in AI handlingwhich will allow you to take advantage of the new features of HarmonyOS 6.
However, The Kirin 9030 Pro continues to suffer from the issue of previous chips: Uses a much lower manufacturing process than the competition (7 nanometers), which affects its performance. Indeed, Its performance would be between the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3a far cry from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
But hey, let’s not dwell on the negative aspects, because in closing we have to say one thing: Huawei Mate X7 has excellent connectivity, with WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, satellite connection for calls and messages (in China)as well as multiband positioning for all major satellite systems.
