Mercado Libre is the leading e-commerce company in Latin America, surpassing titans such as Amazon and Walmart. Its success is not only due to the wide availability in the region, the free shipping policy or the diverse portfolio of affiliated sellers, but also to the good prices, which are often interesting offers on the site.
However, not everything is rosy at Mercado Libre. Many sellers take advantage of the excitement during sales to launch fake offers or increase the price of their products in a hidden way. If you don’t want to fall into this trap, the best thing you can do is check the price history on Mercado Libre for the product you want.
4 ways to see price history on Mercado Libre
Although there aren’t many price benchmarks to match Mercado Libre, there are several tools you can use to find out how much a product has cost in the past and determine if the current price is fair. Get to know them below.
Mercado Track
The best app to view price history at Mercado Libre is Mercado Track. This is the website where you can. To find out the price of the last month, the last six months, or the last year, search or post the Mercado Libre link for the product you want.
MercadoTrack shows you a price history graph that you can interact with and even download as an image. In addition, the page gives you a summary of how much the product rose or fell in the last difference, the average price of the previous month and other details.
Since the organizers do not have the necessary infrastructure to support many countries, it mainly works with products from Argentina. In my tests, it worked well with Mercado Libre Mexico products, but not with ML Venezuela and Colombia. Wayback Machine
If Mercado doesn’t work because the product you want is not from Mercado Libre Argentina, but from another country, you can try your luck with the Wayback machine. This site keeps backup copies of many Internet sites, including Mercado Libre products, so that we can see what they were before.
The procedure is very simple: copy the link of the Mercado Libre product for which you want to know the price history, enter the website of the Wayback Machine, paste the link into the search bar of the website and press enter. You will see a calendar with specific dates marked. Click on one of those marked dates and select an option that will direct you to the product page for that date. That way, you’ll see how much it costs in the past.
It should be noted that this method is not compatible with all Mercado Libre products because the Wayback Machine only backs up pages with certain traffic (according to the Wayback Machine criteria, unpopular or less visited products are not displayed on the page).
Historial.com.ar
This is an Argentinian site dedicated to tracking the prices of products from various stores in the country, including Mercado Libre. It works in the same way as other similar websites (posting a product link or searching directly).
In my experience, Historial.com.ar did not give me as good results as Mercado Track because sometimes it cannot find some products, but I like that it allows you to create an alert to know when a product is reduced in price and be the first to buy it.
Ask the seller
The worst way to find out the price of a product on Mercado Libre is to ask the seller, but if none of the previous methods work for you, this may be the only option. Go to the Questions section of Mercado Libre for the product you are interested in and leave a comment: Has the product been reduced in price? Was this product previously at $X? Or something similar.
Usually, the seller won’t tell you the truth and will avoid the question in some way, but due to the pressure of having the opinion seen by everyone, they will answer you honestly in the end. You have nothing to lose by trying and it’s probably your only option, so don’t be shy and ask him directly.
And you… do you know another way to see the price history in Mercado Libre?
