If you’re new to artificial intelligence or worried about the Meta AI icon on Facebook Messenger, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that Meta AI can be removed from Messenger, although the bad news is that it cannot be easily removed.
As far as we can tell, Messenger currently doesn’t offer any option to remove Meta AI from the Android app. In this case, a series of steps must be followed to remove this icon/dialog from the messaging app.
In short, you need to uninstall the messenger application from your mobile and then install an old version (before the version where Meta AI is included). These steps explain how to do it easily and quickly:
Go to “Settings” on your phone, go to “Applications” and find the Messenger app and install it.
Click on the “Uninstall” option to confirm that you have uninstalled the application. We recommend you to download version 464.0.0.28.109 (Click this link to download the apk) When you try to download the version, your phone will tell you that the file may be harmful. Dismiss the message by clicking Download Anyway (we have tested the APK on VirusTotal so the file is virus free).
Open the APK you downloaded, click “Package Installer” and click “Install”.
Remember that to install APK apps on Android, you need to enable unknown app installs. Similarly, you should disable automatic updates in the Play Store, because Meta AI will appear again if Google App Store updates the version of Messenger you installed.
