A few days ago, on February 19, we published a tutorial so that you can learn how to install Android 15 on your mobile before anyone else. Now that Google has Android 15 Developer Preview 1 (DP1), it can be done, although we warn of the risks: It is a very early version of this system., is not suitable for daily use and with severe limitations. There’s a reason it’s a developer version, but we know there are users who like to recommend it.
However, Android 15 DP1 seems to be greener than we thought as it is suffering from a bug that forced Google to stop the OTA distribution. We’ll tell you what happens, but we’ll tell you in advance: don’t download Android 15 just yet, because it might damage your phone.
Android 15 DP1 OTA will crash the system, you should try with clean install only
If you go through Reddit or the Android community forums, you will easily notice that Android 15 DP1 has more serious problems than expected. Various users have reported that the operating system won’t boot after flashing the OTA update. On the contrary, it only appears “The device is damaged” message And it’s nothing anymore.
Google acknowledged the bug, halted the OTA rollout and listed the bug as one of the known Android 15 DP1 issues. However, the company did not provide detailed information on what could be the cause.
Even so, it’s relatively easy to think of a possible reason: when you do a system update via OTA, you install the new version over the existing one. This is a complicated process, but it has two advantages: first, you will keep all your files; And second, it’s less tedious and uses a simpler system image.
The problem with this type of modification is that it is made “dirty”, not from scratch. This means that the work of installing the new system must be more precise, attention to detail and the possibility of something missing is high. with OTA Android 15 DP1 Surgeon is not working as expected. And the system is broken.
Now, Google has indicated that they have paused the OTA rollout until the bug is fixed. But still you can perform the manual installation with blank, full image and using Android flash tool. Even if you still want to try Android 15 DP1, we recommend you to use this method.
Be careful, we already pointed out above: Developer Preview 1 of Android 15 is very green and has various known bugs. Examples? Missing package loader, visual errors in app unlock, errors in PPI mode, random Google Play crashes and more. Be careful what you do with that in mind.
